Coming back to the Roots
This 1965 home in the midst of trees had been preserved pretty close to its original style, except for the Kitchen. When it came to remodel this rather dark space, the clients wanted to connect to the original style with modern touches, such as opening the Kitchen to the Dining Room with an island, installing skylights to bring more natural light in, and adding the blue accents with walnut detailing. The final touch was the changes in the Living Room: introduction of new tile and reclaimed wood mantel at the existing Fireplace, along with a custom desk to complete the wall. Using US and locally based sources for materials, such as Heath tiles, was also an essential part of the project: Custom cabinets were constructed by a local craftsman, the custom lighting in the Dining Room was made by a small shop in Rhode Island, and the pendant lights in the Kitchen are from New York.
